On the eve of a critical vote on the future of his proposed soccer stadium, David Beckham is hosting a World Cup party in downtown Miami this afternoon.
Futbol Miami is organizing the event at The Wharf. It's a watch party for the World Cup semi-final, pitting Beckham's native England against Croatia. The winning team will go on to play France this weekend for the World Cup trophy. For Beckham, the bigger prize may be good will, as he looks to gain support for his plans to transform the Melreese golf course into a soccer stadium, hotel, and a million-square feet of commercial space.
If the City Commission approves the Beckham plan tomorrow...it will go to voters this November.
