Former Parkland SRO Speaks Out

"Knowing what I know today, I would have been in that building in a heartbeat." That's what the school resource officer on duty at Stoneman Douglas High School during the deadly Valentine's Day mass shooting tells NBC's "Today" show.

Scot Peterson was suspended and then resigned after Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said that the deputy failed to enter the building where a former student was firing an AR-15 rifle.

In the interview, Peterson refers to the Stoneman Douglas students as "my kids," something that at least one of the victims' parents says he has no right to say.
