It's the end of an era for AOL Instant Messenger.
AIM, as it's known, is shutting down today after 20 years. AOL says while AIM ignited a cultural shift, the way we communicate with each other has changed profoundly.
Still, anyone who ever used Instant Messenger will remember the thrill of being an early adopter, including that first screen name and being able to chat with friends anytime, any place.
