Ocean Drive in Miami Beach is being made a one-way road on weekends next month as part of a pilot program.
All four weekends in September, the city will redirect all northbound traffic on the two-lane thoroughfare southbound from its northern terminus at 15th Street near Lincoln Road south to First Street near South Pointe.
After a string of violent incidents that left two people dead and at least three others injured over Memorial Day weekend, officials are hoping this will curtail future incidents.
The one-way will be in effect starting at 8 p.m. on Fridays and run through 5 a.m. on Mondays.
The program starts this Labor Day weekend.
