Former University of Miami president and former Clinton cabinet official Donna Shalala is returning to teach in Coral Gables permanently. The 76-year-old tenured Miami professor is returning from a two-year sabbatical to begin teaching classes on campus again full time.
Since stepping down as UM's fifth president in 2015, Shalala served as president of the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. She served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under former President Bill Clinton from 1993 until 2001, and months later took the job leading "The U."
Shalala teaches political science courses on health care at Miami.
