In the last few months of last year cash registers at the front desks of more than 12-hundred hotels in the InterContinental Hotels Group were infected with malware.
When customer credit cards were swiped for incidentals the malware gobbled up the data. Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza and Candlewood Suites were among the brands affected.
The company said there has been no unauthorized use of credit card data since December 29th but the malware was not eradicated until last month.
Customers were advised to monitor their statements.
