A family in California is reunited with their dog, 12 years after she went missing. On February 10th, someone in a black SUV dropped an old dog off on a rural property outside Stockton, California. The property owner called the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office reporting a dog that “appeared old and unwell.”
Animal Service Officer Brandon Levin responded to the call. When he scanned the dog’s microchip, he found out she had been missing for 12 years. The dog, named Zoey, had disappeared in 2010 in Lafayette, California, about 60 miles from where she was found. Zoey’s owner, Michelle, had moved to a new town, but still had the same phone number, so Levin was able to contact her about Zoey.
On Friday, the sheriff’s office posted a video on their Facebook page of the reunion between Zoey and her owner. “Honestly I am still in shock,” says Michelle in the video. “I definitely didn’t expect this to ever happen, so I’m really excited. Excited to hopefully bring her back, get her healthy, and let her live the rest of her life.”
