If you find yourself in a Walmart in Melbourne, Florida, watch out for drunk drivers...on motorized shopping carts.

A 39-year-old man was arrested after police say he was driving a motorized scooter and crashing into shelves while intoxicated on Sunday (7/24/22) at a Walmart in Melbourne.

Melbourne Police say the man was driving a Walmart motorized shopping cart with his open backpack sitting in the scooter basket, where they were able to see an open bottle of Smirnoff vodka inside.

According to Police, the man almost hit other customers as he was seen swaying in the scooter and running into shelves. The man allegedly smelled like booze and had “glassy eyes”.

When officials asked the man to show his ID, the driver was uncooperative and had to be taken to a patrol vehicle on a stretcher. He also refused to take a breath test when he was taken into custody, according to police.

The unnamed man has been booked into the Brevard Couty Jail on charges of DUI, refusal with prior citation, disorderly intoxication and possession of an open container.
