A father in Florida recently did some back-to-school shopping with his daughter and it really paid off. Cleveland Pope was buying school supplies when he decided to pick up a little something for himself, too - a scratch-off lottery ticket.

The 47-year-old from Brooksville’s purchase turned out to be a good one, as it won him a $1-million jackpot! “I just happened to be on a different side of town from where I normally buy lottery tickets,” Pope explains, “all because I was looking for a specific backpack for my daughter to start school with.”

The big winner chose to receive his prize money as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $880-thousand, more than enough to buy all the school supplies his family needs.
