Personally, out of all the video streaming services HBO MAX is the one I’ve been excited about the most. Between the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League coming out, the new Wonder Woman being releases on the platform and now HBO Max’s “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reunion special it’s worth the money.
With that said the Fresh Prince reunion has aired and there are some things we need to unpack. With "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" being the first sitcom that Will Smith ever acted in, the rapper turned actor was very green and learned everyone’s lines in order to get it right.
Music executive Benny Medina, responsible for acts such as Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and Sean Combs, was the muse for the show. Parts of his life were included in Smith’s character, Will.
In season five’s “Will’s Misery” Will pranked Carlton so badly that he “broke the fourth wall” which means he ran out of the Banks household, through other sets and the audience, something that had never been done before.
The real takeaway from the reunion was Will Smith and the O.G. Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert, reuniting after 27 years.
“I wasn’t unprofessional on the set. I just stopped talking to everybody because I didn’t know who to trust because I had been banished. And they said it was you who banished me. Because you were Will,” Hubert said. “I was 21 years old,” explained Smith. “Everything was a threat to me.” If you watch even just a few minutes of the reunion this part is incredible!
