Mark Your Calendar: The 'Black Panther 2' Release Date Has Been Announced

Anyone who's seen Avengers: Endgame could assume that a Black Panther sequel was all but inevitable after the heroic ranks were, ahem, adjusted, and on Saturday (August 24) the news was confirmed when director Ryan Coogler announced the release date of Black Panther II at Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

Fans of the Wakandan super hero can mark their calendars for May 6, 2022, and though that seems like a time to wait Coogler explained that it's for good reason. “We’re really hard at work on it trying to give you something special,” he told the audience (via Polygon). “We’re gonna take our time; we want it to be right.”

Though it's still too early for a full title or villain reveal, Chadwick Boseman is expected to return as the titular character and Letitia Wright is thought to reprise her role as Shuri after fighting alongside the Avengers in the Infinity War and Endgame movies. It is also reported that Michael B. Jordan will be coming back as Killmonger.

The first Black Panther film premiered February 16, 2018 and pulled in more than $1.3 billion in ticket sales worldwide, along with three Academy Awards.
