Lil Nas X, BTS, More On 'Time's Most Influential People On Internet List

Time magazine's fifth installment of their 25 Most Influential People on the Internet was published on Tuesday (July 16) and it features a cross-genre batch of celebrities, politicians and more.

For this year's list, the magazine "evaluated contenders by looking at their global impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news." Lil Nas X, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, President Donald Trump and BTS took top placement on the list for their strong Twitter game, but each of the acts spread influence in their own unique ways. While Lil Nas X is basically on his way to conquering the Song of the Summer with the many remixes of his breakout hit, "Old Town Road," AOC's social media prowess falls on how she "expertly harnessed viral tropes to draw attention to subcommittee hearings and granular policy debates," according to the magazine.

As for Trump, well, Time reported that his digital presence ramped up immensely over the past year. "On March 17, he sent out 29 tweets in a single day, including a tweet pondering whether federal agencies should investigate Saturday Night Live for criticizing him and a retweet of Jack Posobiec, a conservative news host who promoted the Pizzagate and Seth Rich conspiracy theories. But that still paled in comparison to his output on May 1, when he posted a whopping 84 times," the magazine reported. Among the other stars on the influencer list include Ariana Grande, James Charles, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Cardi B and more. Click here to see the list in full.

Earlier this year, Time also unveiled a wider list with their 100 Most Influential People in the World issue, honoring the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Taylor Swift, Sandra Oh, Gayle King, soccer star Mohamed Salah and Nancy Pelosi with separate covers.
