Anthony Bourdain, Celebrity Chef, Dead by Suicide

The news of Anthony Bourdain's death by suicide really hit me. Just three days ago I was chatting with my boyfriend and his family and the question came up as to which celebrity you'd love to meet and chat with or interview. The room's consensus, myself included, was Anthony Bourdain because of his enthusiasm and curiosity for life, his knowledge of travel and acceptance of other customs and cultures. The list of reasons went on and on.

How could someone with so much to live for - access to the world, a family, success, fame, love of fans - kill themselves?

Depression.

The image of depression being something you wear on your sleeve is wrong. Those who suffer from mental health often don't share their condition at all, partly because depression makes you feel like you don't matter, like everyone would be better off without you and your feelings.

This is NOT the case. Please, if you feel broken and alone, know you’re NOT. It can get better. You need to reach out to someone. Reach out to a loved one. Reach out to ME! I'm here.

If you're having suicidal thoughts and need immediate help coping please call 9-1-1 or contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 800-273-8255.
